In the world of The 7th Guest, you are an active and mysterious entity known only as "Ego". Your role, identity and purpose is not known or explained, rather, it is experienced as a seamlessly integral part of the total environment that is the Stauf mansion. Because you are looking out from within, you cannot see yourself, but your inner spirit has a voice. Listen to it.
The house of The 7th Guest is filled with 19 devilishly clever puzzles that will test your wits and scare you out of them as well. To complete the game you must solve every puzzle in the house - only then will the secrets of the madman Henry Stauf be revealed to you.
To help you get started, you might want to check out the pyramid in the lower right corner of the Sphinx board.

Er...and then I started playing and remembered how tough the puzzles are! Oh wow, is this really 20 years old? Wow. This game is like the precursor to Portal: a mysterious protagonist, an antagonizing villain, and so many puzzles to solve, all set to good music (such as The Fatman and Team Fat's "The Game" or "Skeletons in My Closet.")
So far, the gameplay seems almost identical to the PC (sadly with no improvements other than fast forwarding cut scenes).
I'd love to see some achievements or something for this game.
When can we expect The 11th Hour on iOS?!
The controls were slow to respond in some puzzles and on the save screen. At first I couldn't figure out how to choose the letters to name a game, but eventually I realized I had to hold my finger on the screen until the pyramid appeared, then aim the dot on the pyramid at the letter I wanted. However since I never saw the name I gave the save when I was loading a save, I have no idea why I was asked to name the save. The game has you load the number of the save, not the name you gave it. The only puzzle that was really impossible because of technical problems was the bishops puzzle. Not only was the response sluggish, but the moves often undid for no reason. I understand that I can't move the bishops where they can be taken, but why not be allowed to move them where it's safe? And sometimes I'd move one of the bishops and the move I'd made previously would undo itself. I'm guessing that the puzzles that were omitted may have had technical problems too difficult to solve at the time of release. I bought and played 7th Guest in April 2013 on a new iPad with retina display. I don't know if the retina display makes the game run slower. But even if it does, that shouldn't make the bishops undo legitimate moves. Despite the aforementioned technical problems, I recommend the game for 7th Guest fans.
