I really think the iPad is a great platform for magazines however nobody has really figured it out in my experience. I've tried apps like GQ or Wired but they tended to be bloated magazines with short form content in gimmicky videos.
Papercut manages to both use the iPad platform while not falling prey to unnecessarily bloating it. It feels very well made and the content looks great and IS great.
